After graduating with his B.S. in Optical Engineering and M.S. in Optics from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics, Jake joined the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at UMD as a Ph.D. student in the Fall of 2020. An avid lens designer, Jake enjoys using his optical modeling background in his current research involving heat-based tunable planar optics for fast focus control. Brewing coffee in every way possible and reading any book in sight keeps him busy when he is not neck-deep in research. With a passion for law, he aims to become an Intellectual Property Attorney in the not-too-distant future.
